About
Modern pilgrims spontaneously build creative structures along their path. Other pilgrims alter the structures. These Evolving Pilgrim Erected Spontaneous Constructions (EPESCs) range from simple cairns to complicated mazes made from rocks and grasses. The goal of this website is to provide tools to document the initial construction and evolution of EPESCs, and to provide researches a comprehensive catalogue of EPESCs along pilgrimage routes.
The initial database includes examples of EPESCs found on the Camino Francés from St. Jean Pied de Port to Santiago de Compostela and Finisterre. We hope in time to expand this website to include crowdsourced entries to help track the evolution of known EPESCs and include other pilgrimages.
Until then we welcome inquiries from researches and pilgrims who would like to add EPESC information from the Camino Francés or from other pilgrimages. Please contact us through our Instagram or Twitter @EPESCCamino.
